Brandon’s Senior Shoot

We recently met Brandon and his mom at Erika & Nicole’s Columbus wedding. After having such a good time with us in the Groovy Booth, they decided to have us do Brandon’s senior portraits only a few weeks later. Because Brandon is a gamer (we can totally relate…), we even did some special photoshop editing on one of his pictures to give it a bit more of a gamer look. Check it out…

Andrako Toddler – Revisited

This little guy and his parents are back for their 2nd family photo shoot. With the Fall weather being so nice, we decided to meet them someplace different – a local pumpkin patch! Between the hay ride, the pumpkin patch itself and the giant hay barn there were a ton of opportunities for really fun family pictures. Take a peek at a few of our favorites…

Hinton Family at Home

The Hinton family are regular clients, and if truth be told, some of our favorites both in and out of our Columbus photo studio. To offer them something a little different, we drove down to their home near Chillicothe, Ohio to shoot some fun pics out on the country for them this time around.

Brit & Stephanie’s Engagement Session

We met these girls at the Columbus Zoo for a fun Fall engagement photo session. While the zoo is normally one of our favorite places to shoot, the fog machines in the swan habitat and spider webs everywhere presented some unique and interesting challenges to our goal of creating romantic pictures. Regardless, the girls’ personalities were so playful that it all worked out.

Sara & Nate’s Big Day!

Check out this teaser from our most recent wedding. We met Sara and Nate earlier this summer at Jen & Dan’s wedding, and were really excited when they started looking around for wedding photographers in Columbus, Ohio that they thought of us first. We’re so fortunate to have such consistently awesome and fun wedding photography clients!

Sara & Nate’s Engagement Session

With one last wedding scheduled for this season and the Fall colors upon us, we headed over to Goodale park with Sara and Nate to grab a few last-minute engagement shots. While this couple has been together for 10 years or better, these are the first professional photographs they’ve had. We’re pretty sure they’ll be able to find one or two to hang on their wall out of these though.

GroovyTip: Use The Sun!

photography tips digital photography tips comments testimonialsWanna know a secret? There’s one important component that makes or breaks every photo – one thing you just can’t live without no matter how good your camera body or favorite lens – light. The good news is that there’s a HUGE, low-cost, reliable light source at your disposal every day: the sun! And, as a bonus, it’s currently at its peak for awesome annual performance. Here are some tips to help you fully take advantage of the sun in your own photography.

In the studio, professional photographers can control the four elements of light (quality, intensity, direction and color) with relative ease. But most of us aren’t shooting in a studio and quite honestly, even having a high tech studio available to us here at GroovyDoodle we often prefer the sun’s light over controlled flash, especially in the Fall.  However, daylight is anything but constant. It changes hourly as well as with the weather or seasons. So here are some things to watch out for when shooting your own outdoor portraits. Read more »

Abec’s Small Business Review Features GroovyDoodle

We were recently featured in the October issue of Abec’s Small Business Review. Interested in a little bit of our personal story? You can read it here.

Featured Story: GroovyDoodle Photography

“The founding of GroovyDoodle Photography was a happy accident,” explains Meloney Buehl, partner and photographer. Mel and her business partner Adam Clark discovered they had a common passion for photography several years ago while working for a global automotive financial services company. Adam was in the IT department and Mel was then the assistant to the head of IT. It was Mel’s responsibility to get the “techi folks” to communicate with each other. One creative way of doing that was to coordinate a shutterbug club.

GroovyDoodle’s first photo collaboration was completely unplanned. At the time, Mel had great ideas but poor equipment and few skills while Adam had skills, equipment and experience, but lacked the network of connections to get some of the subjects he wanted in front of the camera. One opportunity in particular caused them to pool their resources, each feeding off of the other’s ideas and enthusiasm, until the final results were nothing short of spectacular. The harmonious blend of natural aptitudes they each brought to the table then today extends to nearly every aspect of their long-time friendship – and to them is the perfect setting for running a business that is both customer-centric and fun to operate.
