“The founding of GroovyDoodle Photography was a happy accident,” explains Meloney Buehl, partner and photographer. Mel and her business partner Adam Clark discovered they had a common passion for photography several years ago while working for a global automotive financial services company. Adam was in the IT department and Mel was then the assistant to the head of IT. It was Mel’s responsibility to get the “techi folks” to communicate with each other. One creative way of doing that was to coordinate a shutterbug club.

GroovyDoodle’s first photo collaboration was completely unplanned. At the time, Mel had great ideas but poor equipment and few skills while Adam had skills, equipment and experience, but lacked the network of connections to get some of the subjects he wanted in front of the camera. One opportunity in particular caused them to pool their resources, each feeding off of the other’s ideas and enthusiasm, until the final results were nothing short of spectacular. The harmonious blend of natural aptitudes they each brought to the table then today extends to nearly every aspect of their long-time friendship – and to them is the perfect setting for running a business that is both customer-centric and fun to operate. Joo & John’s Reception Mini-Studio

Yup, we took the mini-studio gear all the way to Canada for a recent destination wedding. Not familiar with our mini-studio? It’s kind of like a photo booth, only better. We call it the GroovyBooth! Not only can we get more people in front of the camera, but the camera is being operated by a professional photographer who is printing out keepsake portraits with the couple’s names and wedding date for the wedding guests, pretty much on-the-spot. Plus, the bridal couple receive all of the images electronically to share and reprint at-will, and we post most of them on Facebook for guests to tag themselves in.

Did we mention this is all free for your guests, or that because there are two of us your standard reception dance floor photos are still being taken? Right. We’ve heard it’s pretty cool… you know… from like everyone we’ve set the GroovyBooth up for.

So here are a few fun shots from John & Joo’s reception…

John & Joo’s Pre-Wedding Slideshow

What happens when you put two families who are about to become one together with close friends, one of the world’s natural wonders and a pair of photographers willing to swim across the border if necessary?

Pure magic.

We were fortunate enough to get to hang out with this fantastic crew at various attractions around Niagara Falls the day before the wedding. Here are just a few of the many fun images we captured and pulled together for them that were played during the reception as a slideshow…

GroovyTip: How To Choose A Wedding Photographer

weddings photographers wedding planners wedding plan wedding pictures wedding photos wedding photographers wedding photographer wedding guide wedding checklist planning a wedding weddings engagements groovytip articles comments testimonials As the preferred photographer at several Columbus wedding venues, we talk to a lot of couples who are searching for a photographer to capture their big day. Sometimes it turns out that we’re not available for their date, but we usually go ahead meet with those couples anyway just to pass on some helpful tips on how to choose the right wedding photographer.

Why do we take the time to meet with bridal clients even if we know there’s no chance of us shooting their wedding? Pay attention here, brides and grooms… This is important. The photographer you choose for your wedding day will be with you on your special once-in-a-lifetime-fairytale day more than anyone… More than your mom, more than your friends, and more than your partner. If you find your photographer annoying, guess what? That irritation is going to be reflected in every picture from your wedding day!

So, with that in mind, here is a list of questions and tips that we offer to every couple we meet with:
